New Review to Start the Year! - 2 Jan, 2008
Happy New Year Everyone!! Look forward to seeing you again in the New Year. We'll be updating the page for up and coming gigs. In the meantime I will be posting reviews for the new EP. Check this one out from Dead Ernest:
SAL - Infatuation CD-EP
It's Been a long time since we heard from these fine Welsh rockers, one of the very few indie-rock hybrid bands to feature a female vocalist, and, alongside Scotland's The Janes, one of the best bands around right now.
They open with "In Love" that starts things off with a surging sea of horizon-stretching guitar riffs, as the rhythm section powers along, the vocal just soars and the corresponding harmonies deliver choruses that really stick in your head as this mix of corking AOR and contemporary indie crash headlong into your heart.
"Make It On Her Own" starts as a ballad, briefly goes quieter, then suddenly erupts into this towering slice of scorching, riffing, rocking emotive indie-rock, here mixing rock, punk, pop and indie to perfection as the song simply flies and holds you in its wonders, another vocal that is both adrenaline-rousing and heart-warming flashing from the speakers like a meteor, on a a roar of indie pop-rock that hits home very time you hear it. "September" is every bit as good, dynamic, even more intense and one storm-force slice of commercial punk-rock-goes-pop that can't fail to have you leaping about the room with glee as the band powers ahead and the vocals fly once more. "Goodbye" is equally stunning, equally similarly structured and every bit as riveting and enjoyable, while the CD ends with "Dreaming", closing things with another surging song that is even more of an anthem than before, and every bit as classic. As female-fronted indie-rock goes, this is 100% stunning with not a wasted or less than enjoyable second along the way.

Paul Travers for Kerrang!:
""Taking a basic riff-rock package and topping it with the soaring vocals of a girl named Cat, the immediate comparison that cartwheels to mind and delivers a roundhouse kick to the ears is that of defunct Britrock pack Skunk Anansie.""
RoomThirteen.com:
"You'll play 'Dysfunctional' again and again and you'll spend all day talking about it with your friends and neighbours. It's not an album. It's a moment in history. We finally have a female fronted rock band that produces some of the finest, emotionally charged songs ever. Garbage has their heir apparent. "
Kerrang :
"Fronted by Cat, one of the most powerful female vocalists to emerge since Skunk Anansie's Skin, South Wales-based four-piece Sal look set to cause a huge stir, particularly if all their songs are as good as this instantly hummable and ever-so-slightly schizophrenic chunk of ballsy rock'n'roll taken from their impending debut album 'Dysfunctional'. Don't be surprised to see this lot on 'Top Of The Pops' very soon."
Sound Nation :
"This Single, to precede their album release on Casket Record, comes through Depcult Records in Cardiff. As one of the most radio-friendly tracks on the album, Runaway recalls the feisty attitude of a rollcall of female-fronted rock acts, as Catrin alternately details in coos and strident tones. It's indie pop that combines the chunky anthemic confidence of Eslastica, and the grungey-pop of Four Non Blondes. Big pop hook, drums twatted really hard, and sexy female vocal. Should do the business. JMcL"
Stephen Lambe for www.musicaldiscoveries.com:
"This album really is something special, and it deserves huge commercial success, outstripping pretty much everything already on the market in indie and punk / metal circles. Vital, emotional, tuneful and inspired, it is a remarkable debut that screams to be heard. In a word, brilliant. (5 stars)"
DA HACK, www.bristollivemusic.co.uk:
"...So what makes SAL special? Well it could be that they have the cutest and bounciest lead singing type lady I have seen in years, (she has a voice to die for), it could be their unique power pop rock sound that makes The Darkness sound like a third rate pub band, it could be their less than pompous fun attitude that makes them impossible not to enjoy. I reckon it's all three..."
Adrian Goodacre, Moist Magazine:
"I thought you were Dead’ is a joy to hear, how come I have never heard this band before. I jest not, everyone will soon be hearing an awful lot more of them…the finest female vocalist I have heard in recent times."
Gavin Allen, Western Mail Echo:
"Sal don’t stick to hoary old rock beats and have confidence and ability enough to look for their own sound. On this form, it might not be too long before they find a wider audience."
Noel Gardner, Buzz Magazine:
"Sal have a drive and urgency to them, the band knock out some punchy top class indie riffs…"
Ali Stokes, South Wales Echo Music Critic:
"".......gives a taste of Sal’s energy with their spiky ultra catchy tunes. These songs showcases Catrin’s voice at its best - these are great guitar tunes.""
